Experience. Education. Innovation.

Construction has always been about more than building homes.

It is about creating places where families grow, communities take shape, businesses succeed, and futures are built. Every project is the result of thousands of decisions—some technical, some financial, some strategic—but all of them ultimately affect people.

For more than thirty years, I have been fortunate to experience the residential construction industry from many perspectives. I've worked in the field, led purchasing and preconstruction teams for national homebuilders, taught future construction professionals at Clemson University, advised organizations across the housing industry, explored the practical application of artificial intelligence, and written about leadership and lifelong learning.

Each experience has reinforced the same belief: better decisions create better outcomes.

This website brings together those experiences and the ideas that continue to shape my work. Whether your interests are residential construction, higher education, artificial intelligence, leadership, or the future of our industry, I hope you'll find something here that informs, encourages, and inspires your own journey.

Helping people make better decisions in residential construction.

A Career Built on Perspective

Every stage of my career has offered a different view of the construction industry.

Working in residential construction taught me the importance of craftsmanship, planning, and execution. Leadership roles with national homebuilders demonstrated how thoughtful purchasing, estimating, and operational decisions influence every phase of a project. Teaching has reminded me that the future of our industry depends not only on what we build today, but also on how well we prepare those who will build tomorrow.

More recently, my work with emerging technologies has strengthened my belief that innovation is most valuable when it supports—not replaces—experience, judgment, and collaboration.

These experiences are not separate chapters of my career. Together, they form a single perspective that continues to guide my work.

Areas of Focus

Writing

Writing has become an extension of my professional life. Through fiction and future non-fiction projects, I explore leadership, construction, education, technology, and the long-term consequences of the decisions we make. My goal is not simply to share information, but to encourage reflection, curiosity, and meaningful conversation.

Residential Construction

More than three decades of experience in residential construction, purchasing, estimating, operations, and executive leadership have provided opportunities to work alongside builders seeking practical solutions to complex challenges. My focus remains on helping organizations improve decision-making throughout the preconstruction process.

Consulting & Industry Advisory

Throughout my career, I have worked with builders, technology companies, manufacturers, universities, and research organizations seeking practical insight into residential construction, estimating, purchasing, preconstruction, and emerging industry trends. Every engagement begins with listening, understanding the challenge, and providing thoughtful, experience-based guidance.

Teaching

As a Senior Lecturer at Clemson University, I have the privilege of preparing future construction professionals through practical, project-based learning. My teaching philosophy emphasizes connecting classroom instruction with real-world construction experience, encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively, and continue learning throughout their careers.

Artificial Intelligence & Innovation

Artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities throughout the construction industry. My interest lies in identifying practical applications that improve estimating, planning, communication, and decision-making while recognizing that technology is most effective when combined with professional experience and sound judgment.

Experience & Leadership

My career has been shaped by opportunities to serve in a variety of professional roles, including:

  • Senior Lecturer, Clemson University

  • Residential construction executive with national homebuilders

  • Purchasing and preconstruction leadership

  • Residential estimating and operations

  • Construction technology and AI advisor

  • Board Liaison, Clemson Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter

  • Author

  • Industry advisor to organizations seeking experienced perspectives on residential construction and housing trends

While these roles have varied, they have all been connected by a common purpose: helping people make informed decisions that create lasting value.

Featured Books

Stories have a unique ability to explore ideas that technical writing often cannot.

My first fiction series, The Disclosure trilogy, examines leadership, purpose, and humanity's future through the experiences of ordinary people facing extraordinary decisions. Although fictional, the themes reflect many of the same principles that have guided my professional career: integrity, responsibility, curiosity, and the importance of thinking beyond immediate challenges.

Future writing projects will continue exploring construction education, leadership, and the evolving relationship between people and technology.

Looking Forward

Construction is changing.

New technologies are transforming workflows. Artificial intelligence is reshaping how information is created and analyzed. Expectations for sustainability, quality, affordability, and education continue to evolve.

While the tools will continue to change, the need for thoughtful leadership, practical experience, and lifelong learning will remain constant.

I believe the future of construction will be built by professionals who combine technical knowledge with curiosity, collaboration, and the willingness to keep growing throughout their careers.

If this website encourages even a few conversations that help move our industry forward, it will have accomplished its purpose.
